Land to Air SAR DRONE
Final industrial Design Project
The Brief
With rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), nanotechnology, quantum computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), emerging technologies are transforming industries and consumer experiences. However, real-world challenges such as climate change, public health crises, cybersecurity threats, and resource management require innovative technological solutions to create a sustainable and equitable future.
Objective: To design and develop an advanced technological solution that leverages emerging technology to address critical global issues, enhance efficiency, and improve quality of life while ensuring sustainability and accessibility.
My vision
To use emerging technologies to improve the application of drones in disaster relief.
Benefits of drones in disaster relief:
Monitoring, forecast, and early warning systems
Disaster information fusion – combining information from different sources Application of Drones in Disasters
Situational awareness and logistics – gathering information
Damage assessment – measuring the scale of damage using a range of methods.
Re-establish communication systems
Search and rescue missions
Limitations of drones in disaster relief:
20-30 minute battery life
Cant operate at the same time as a aircraft
Can’t fly in poor weather
My vision is to mitigate these issues through the use of emerging technologies:
Hydrogen Power – Hydrogen cells have the potential to prolong flight time by replacing the use of lithium-powered batteries.
Improved computer vision and motion planning – Improved computing and motion planning would allow drones to automatically react to their surroundings.
Ability to rest and recharge – Landing gear would allow drones to be landed on things such as street lights and the edges of buildings.
Thermal imaging – A thermal camera can be used for both search and rescue as well as being used to track diseases through the collation of information and the ability to deliver medicine in a faster and more efficient manner.
Automatic action – Fully autonomous drones that can execute all aspects of a mission without the need for human piloting.
My main mission:
